ABSTRACT

This study analysis cassava production, processing and consumption in Ikwuano L.G.A of Nigeria. To fulfill the objectives, a well structural questionnaire was administered to cassava farmers in Ikwuano. In analyzing the data collectect, a regression model w used for cassava production and consumption function was fitted for consumers of cassava products. The results gave- indication that there was increase in cassava production. Farm size, fertilizer, cost of planting material and labour were significant factors that determine cassava production in the study area. While household size and price of the commodity, were significant determinant of consumption of cassava. All of these signs of the factors conform to a priori expectation except age. In line with the findings, this research recommends that reduction in the household size will lead to farmers consuming little and saving more. Also increase in production of cassava will lead to attainment of food security in the country. If policies that will encourage continual subsidy in agriculture, implementation of the Land Use Act with farmers in view and strengthening of agricultural cooperatives are encouraged. New interventions are necessary in cassava processing the study area.
