Academic staff utilisation of serials in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike library: A look at the user register:- Edward Amadi

Abstract

 The purpose ofthis study entitled Academic staffutilisation ofserials in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike library is to identify whether academic staff of the university make use of the available serials in the library for their teaching and research activities.Where lack of patronage is established, proffer possibilities towards ensuring the academic staff utilisation of the serial materials. The research method or design used for the study issurvey design. Survey method involvesthe use ofdata from direct observation and or extracting relevant information from available source.Hence instruments for data collection for this study are observation and document.The researcher being the Head of department ofserial have direct observation ofusers ofthe serial materials. Fordata extraction, the source (document) where information is extracted for this study is the department's user register. The serial materials are acquired for the academic goal ofstudents and lecturers.The findings ofthe study through observation and user register reveal that academic staff of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike do not patronize the serial materials in the library. The study recommends as fbllows:°The staff of the serial department should create awareness ofthe available serials to the academic staff through embedded librarianship; The Deans and Heads of departments being among the accreditation team of courses offered in the university, knowingthe wealth of information in the serial department which is current relevant and adequate in size, should be involved in creating awareness and sensitisation of faculty membersto be usingthe serial materials.
