A Survey Of The Indigenous Flora Of Abiriba Community And Their Uses In Traditional Medicine

ABSTRACT
A survey was carried out to identify the indigenous flora of Abiriba Community in Abia State, Nigeria as well as determine their uses in traditional medicine. The focus of the study was to identify the uses of these plants for the treatment of various diseases conditions in the area. Household studies were conducted in three villages namely Amaogudu, Ameke and Agboji. A questionnaire was used to identify the various ways the people utilize these plant. species in healthcare delivery. The study revealed that about 32% of the population in Abiriba were traditional medicine users and many of the medicinal plants were used for treating malaria, fever, typhoid, anemia, dysentery, diarrhea and skin infections. It is recommended that use of medicinal plants should be encouraged because it is cheap and has minimal side effects compared to orthodox drugs which are expensive and most times adulterated.
