ABSTRACT
Clothing is any article we place on
our body in order to protect, beautiful or adore Clothing is one of the basic
needs of man. Clothing is also used to show people's status and t role they
play in the society (Anyakoha and Eiuwa, 1991). Clothing is a major aspect of press.'
appearance that often bears culturally shared meaning, those cultures we learnt
from chi dirt while interacting with others. In everyday life, we realize and
validate ourselves as communicate our thoughts, values, attributes or feelings
and receive response from others, Out verbally and non-verbally through
processes of discourse and appearance (Stone, 1989). Clothing has been found to
contribute to the sense of well-being or quality of life aside with other
domains of life, which are important to individuals, for example family
housing, amil food and filmily work (Sontag, 1 993). Fulfillment of needs is
import to sense of positive quality ol life (l3ubolz and Sontag, 1993).
Pederson (1989) defines need satisfiers as being "elements any of whose
use fulfils need" and argues that clothing is a need satisfier rather than
a basic neei as long as it is consistently required cross-culturally for life
maintenance. Clothing satisfies logical needs for survival alongside food amid
shelter and it also satisfies psychosocial Seeds. Many studies also have shown
that other higher needs such as belonging and self-esteem can be satisfied
through clothing (Callis, l982 Kwon, 1991).
