ABSTRACT

The myco-chcmical, proximate, and vitamin/mineral contents of an edible locations in Uinudikc, Abia state of Nigeria was determined. The mushroom species was found to contain bioactivc compounds comprising alkaloids, phenols, saponins, tannins and flavonoids in varying quantities. And the quantitive value of tannins (.3.8()mg./l()()g) found to . contain crude protein, crude fiber, fats, .ash and carbohydrate in appreciable 376.40mg/cal, and the percentage composition of the crude protein and carbohydrate and 81.59% respectively. Similarly, the mushroom species contained appreciable quantities of vitamins and minerals. The composition ol niacin (l.30mg/l()()g) in the mushrooms was detected. While the calcium, nitrogen and. potassium contents of the mushrooms were as high as 1.501, 1.54 and 3.625% respectively, brom a nutritional standpoint, this mushroom species has been found to be rich and based on (he results, (he mushroom species is recommended to be cultivated in Nigeria for its raw material value for drug production, and as an alternative source of vitamins/mincrals and flavoring agents.
