Growing Pleurowtus Ostreatus Var. Florida Lawn Grass (Elusine Indica), Vertiver Grass (Vertivera Zizanoides), And Seam Weed (Chromolaena Odorata)
ABSTRACT
The comparison of Amount of
mycelial development and fructification of Pleurotus ostreatus was carried out
using 3 different agro wastes (lawn grass vertiver and seam weed) as substrate.
Malt Extract Agar was used for the laboratory medium by mixing 10g of the Malt
Extract Broth powder and agar powder in 500m1 of water. The preparation was
autoclaved at 121 for 15 minutes and allowed to cool to 450 10mL of the medium
was poured into sterile Petri dishes arid allowed to gel. Thoroughly washed
cereal grain Millet (Penniseturn spp) was soaked overnight and then autoclaved.
On cooling, pure culture of Pleurotus ostreatus were inoculated into the grains
and incubated at 28 ± 1°C for about 2 weeks. Finally, dry vertivers grass, dry
lawn grass and seam weed was soaked overnight and pasteurized for 2 hours at a
temperature of 80°C in a gas heated drum. On cooling 40 g of the grain spawn
were inoculated into the substrates fructification started 2 weeks after
inoculation. Lawn grass produced more fruit bodies, followed by the vertiver
and then the seam weed.
