ABSTRACT

An Actinomycetes sp. together with Streptomyces species were isolated from the soil of Okwuta. One gram (ig) of soil sample was weighed and added into a test tube containing lOmi of distilled water. The test tube was well shake and the soil suspension was cultured on Actinomycetes isolation agar and Casein tryptic soy Agar and incubated for 14-28 days at 25°C. The organisms isolated after analysis were Strepton2yces spp and an Actinomycetes sp. The isolates were subjected to various pH ranges on their antifungal effect. The Effect of pH ranges on Actinomycetes spp antifungal effects were determined through Actinomyces had the highest zone of inhibition of 25mm at pH 9 for Actinomyces 2, while antifungal agent production measured by inhibition zones against showed that Actinomyces spp had it's zone of inhibition of 19mm at pH 7 for Actinomyces 1. The Effect of pH on Streptomyces spp and their impacts as antifungal agents production showed that the highest zone of inhibition of 25mm at pH 6 for Streptomyces 1, while antifungal agent production it's zone of inhibition of 26mm at pH 6 for Streptomyces 1. The evaluated treatment, from the statistically analysis carried out showed that there is a significant of (P0.05) on the growth inhibition diameter (mm) for both tested fungi. The mean values with the same lowercase letters in the column inhibition zone diameter (mm) are not significantly different at pO.O5 interval. Duncan's multiple range test showed that the Streptomycetes showed a range of 25.00±71 while Actinomyces showed a range of 13.00±8.46. Thus, this isolate could be used for further processes like extraction, purification and identification of new bioactive metabolites.
