ABSTRACT
Obesity plays relevant pathophysiological role in the development of health problems, arising as result of complex interaction of genetic, nutritional, and metabolic factors. The aim of the study is to determine the effects of oral administration of Moringa oleifera seed oil on body weight gain, Lee's obesity index and serum lipid profile in albino rats. Healthy male Albino Wister rats between stipulated ages weighing between 78g - 135g were used for the study. The rats were divided into five (5) groups with six (6) animals in each group. Animals in group one were administered with 2ml/kg of normal saline, group two were administered with 2ml/kg of Moringa oleifera, group three were administered with lml/kg of Moringa oleifera, group four were administered with 0.5ml/kg of Moringa oleifera and group five were administered with lml/kg of Olive oil. Results showed a significant (p<0.05) decrease in the cholesterol concentration ofthe rats treated with moringa oleifera relative to the control group. There was no significant (p><0.05) difference in the triacylglycerol, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein of the treated groups when compared to the control group.
