ABSTRACT
The aim of this research study "the effect of oral administration of inethanolic
leafs of tectona-grandis on antioxidants enzymes of normal and immune-
compromised rats" is to investigate and access the possible changes or
implications of a medicinal leaf extract on a compromised health. The plant is
probably the most widely cultivated high valued hardwood (HVH) in the world and
is native to india and myanmar on south-east Asian countries. The survey reveals
that the plant is used in the treatment of several health challenges. The superoxide
dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione (GLUT) activities were
measured to understand the antioxidant status of the different groups. The result
shows that at probability level (p<O. 05) for superoxide dismutase, there is a
signflcant increase (40.19 ± 6.04) in group 1 which shows that SOD make the
plant to possess the protective effect over free radicals. There is also a significant
increase in the probability level (p<O.05) on catalase in group 1 (7.58 ± 1.35) and
also glutathione level in tectona-grandis also displayed a significant increase (5.33
± 1.23) in group 1 when compared with the suppressed but not treated group.
Consequently the result shows that administration of the tectona grandis aids in
scavenging some compounds that induces health complications.
