The Effect Of Agrolyser On Growth, Yield And Nutrient Uptake Of Fluted Pumpkin (Telfairia Occidentalis) In An Ultisol In Southeastern Nigeria.
ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted
between May-September 2006 in the Eastern Farm of Michael Okpara University Of
Agriculture, Umudike to investigate the effect of agrolyser on the growth,
yield and nutrient uptake of fluted pumpkin. The experiment was laid out in
Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) comprising of five treatments and four
replicates Agrolyser was applied at the rates, 0,4,8,12,16 (kg/ha.). The
results showed that plant height tended to increase as the level of Agrolyser
increased. The tallest plant of 98.37cm was produced at 16kg/ha Agrolyser.
Number of leaves tended to increase as the level of Agrolyser increased. 158.50
number of leaves produced highest number at 16kg/ha agrolyser. Plant yield
decreased with increase in Agrolyser. For number of branches and diameter of
branches, there was no significant effect (P≥0.05) and this gave 5.63 and
0.70 respectively at 4kg/ha agrolyser. For nutrient uptake, increase in level
of Agrolyser increased phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen content with 1 6kg/ha
giving the highest jiutrient content.
