ABSTRACT
Soil can be
defined as the organic and inorganic materials on the surface ofthe earth that
providemedium forplant growth. Soils develop slowly overtime and are generally
formed from the parent material through the process of weathering. Soils are
made up ofthree principal textural particles ofsand, silt and clay. The
proportions ofthese particles to a largeextent determine the nature, structure
and textural class ofthe soil. They also determine the potentials ofsuch soil
for agricultural, architectural and structural purposes
