ABSTRACT
This study was done to determine the
susceptibility pattern of Candida albicans on commonly used antifungal drugs
like ketoconazole, Itraconazole, Fluconazole, Terbinafine, Amphotericin B and
Gallic acid. The susceptibility pattern of Candida albicans were examined using
the disk diffusion method, gallic acid combined with fluconazole has a zone of
inhibition of 34.6mm, Gallic acid combined with. amphotericin B has a zone of
inhibition of 21.0mm, gallic acid combined with itraconazole has a zone of
inhibition of 14.6mm, gallic acid combined with ketoconazole has a zone of
inhibition of 35.3mm and gallic acid combined with terbinafine has a zone of
inhibition of 25.0mm. Gallic acid alone has a zone of inhibition of 12.00mm, fluconazole
alone has a zone of inhibition of 28.3mm, amphoteincin B alone has a zone of
inhibition of 9.6mm, itraconazole alone has a zone of inhibition of 14.0mm,
ketoconazole alone has a zone of inhibition of 34.3mm and terbinafine alone has
a zone of inhibition of 25.0mm the culture media used was Sabourand Dextrose
Agar. The result indicates that combined antifungal drugs with gallic acid is
more effective and shows a higher zone of inhibiton than single antifungal
drugs.
