Abstract
This study investigated the effect of Students'
Learning Styles, SLS, (Cooperative, Competitive and individualistic) and
gender, as well as, the combined effect of the two independent factors on the
retention of geography concepts. Three hypotheses guided the study. The sample
consisted of373 Senior Secondary One (SSI) students randomly drawn from two
secondary schools in Owerri Urban,Imo State. The study adopted a non-equivalent
control group design. Data were collected using a 40-item, 5 options, multiple
choice objective test drawn from two units of SS 1 geography Curriculum (FME,
1985). The psychometric properties of the test were duely established. Data
were analysed using Analysis of Co-Variance (ANCOVA), while post hoc multiple
comparison test was carried out using the scheffe test. Result ofthe study
indicated significant effects of SLS, gender and their interaction effect on
the retention of geography concepts
