ABSTRACT
This study was aimed at elevating the
seroprevalence and isolation of Helicobacter pylon among patient suspected of
having stomach ulcer. Blood and stool samples were collected from patients
living in different geographical distribution both male and female, young and
old were examined. Out of 90 patients, 45 male and 45 female were selected
between different age group ranging from 0-80&above. Two methods were used
for laboratory investigation, which are stripe test known to be the sero test
and the stool sample for isolation and identification of Helicobacter pylon.
The stool sample were cultured and bacteria colonies were examined on the basis
of Gram staining, colony morphology, biochemical reaction such as catalase,
urease, oxidase and Hydrogen sulphide. From the findings, it was found that out
of the 90 samples, 23.33% were seropositive and 62.22% were isolation positive.
Almost 75% of patients were both seropositive and isolation positive, the
highest percent of seropositive was 0-9 years, this was followed by both those
within the age of 10-19 and 80&above(4.44%). there was no seropositive from
20- 39years but there were more seropositivity among female (14.44%). The
conditions of Helicobacrer pylon are more seropositive among patient living in
urban regions. The rate of infection in isolation was found to be more in age group
45-60 and less in age group below 15,Among the 75% of Helicobacterpylori
infected patient, 72% are affected with ulcer and 20% found to have stomach
ache. This study thus suggests that the prevalence of Helicobacter pylon
infection in children below 0-9years is high in umuahia which could be due to
lack of proper hygiene and improper sanitary facilities. Therefore proper
hygiene and proper sanitary facilities should be taken.
