ABSTRACT
The study evaluated the qualitative and quantitative phytochernical properties and phytopestièidal effects of the ethanolic leaf extracts of Cymbopogon citratus, Ocimum gratissimiun and seeds of Xi,'Iopia aethiopica. The phytochernicat screening of the extracts revealed the ireseiice of alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, saponin, cyanide, phytate, phenols in Ocimum grcitissimuin and Xvlopici aethiopica while alkaloid and saponin were not detected in Cymbopogon citratus. Cyanide had the highest value (4.96±0.03) and tannin the lowest (0.24±0.00). Xylopiq athiopica seed extract produced the highest phytopesticidal effect on Aedes spp. (77.00±3.00), Diaphorina enderleini (40.00±3.46)' and Aphis spiraecola (60.07±5.77) when compared to the other extracts used in the study. The extracts produced statistically significant (P<0.05) phytopesticidal results on the pests used in the study when compared to the control group.
