ABSTRACT
The
deposition of NiSO, thin films was deposited using chemical bath deposition
technique (C.B.D) at room temperature. The spectral absorbance of the film was
measured using a spectrophotometer in the UV-Vis region of the electromagnetic
spectrum. The effects of concentration of the complexing agents on other
optical properties obtained theoretically were evaluated from the
spectrophotometer data. The energy band gap increased for different
concentrations of complexing agents to a maximum of 4.0e V. The transmittance
showed peak value of 81% in the Vis region while the absorbance showed increase
for different complexing agents. The result shows increase in photon energy of
the absorption coefficient up to 3.77eV and low values of reflectance, with a
maximum value at 32%. Values for the refractive index reduced from 2.162 to
1.761. The thin film showed a high optical conductivity with a peak value of
4.654 x 10'5?. The thin film could be useful in different applications; their
high absorbance in the UV region makes the film useful for thermal control
coating and for screen off UV portion of the electromagnetic radiation which is
dangerous to human health. The refractive index n>0 makes the thin film
candidates for protective coating. The results make the thin film good for
specific applications in reflecting films, microelectronics, window coating
etc.
