ABSTRACT
The soil sample used in this study was collected from the
rhizosphere of turmeric plant dated National Root Crop Research Institute
analysis. Nitrogen-fixing microorganisms were iSOlr onas by spread-plate
technique on the solid medium. The study revealed the presence of
NitrOSOrn;ieCted europea and Azotobacter species. The total Hetertrophic
bacterial load of soil samples coPe total from rhizosphere of turmeric plant
showed range from 1.08 x 108 to 7.8 x 10 whi1 isolates nitrifying bacteria
count ranged from 1.9 x iO4to 4.8 x iO4. Shows the distribution Of obacter from
soil samples. Nitrosomonas europea had the frequency of 2 (33.3%) while
AZObj1jty to species had 4 (66.7). Nitrogen fixing rhizobia have been reported
to vary in their, symbiont compete, infect and fix nitrogen in their hosts due
various factors such as host, extremes, compatibility, soil salinity; soil pH,
mineral and heavy metal toxicity, temperature inadequate or extreme soil
moisture and nutrient deficit.
