Nature of Library Buildings and Challenges to Effective Users Services Delivery In Public Universities In Abia And Imo States :- Chidi Kanu A.
Abstract
The study investigated the nature oj library
buildings and the how this relates to challenges of effective users service
delivery in university libraries. Fourpublic university libraries in Abia and
Imo States, were purposefully selected for the study, using two (2) federal and
two (2) state universities, namely. Michael Okpara University ojAgriculture,
Umudike; Abia State University, Uluru, Federal University oj Technology,
Owerri; and Imo State University, Owerri. The study was guided by 3 specific
objectives and research questions. Findings revealed that the nature ofpublic
university library buildings in the Statesstudied have structural andfacility
defects, which resulted to challenges to effective service delivery. Some ofthe
challenges include,farlocation ofthe library building, poor ventilation, poor
waterreticulation, among others. The solutions to theseproblems were uncovered
in the study, and include; proximity oflibrary location to the users and
structural andfacilitiesrenovation andupgradingofexisting librarybuildings.
