ABSTRACT
The palm oil contaminated soil was evaluated for the presence
of viable bacteria, fungi, and lipolytic microorgnnisms. The bacteria isolated
included Staphylococcus sp, Micrococcus sp., Pseudomonas sp., Bacillus sp., and
Corynebacterium sp. Fungi isolated included penicillium sp., aspergillus sp.,
and candida sp. The highest aei·obic count ranged fro 7.8 x 10cfu/g -4.4x
10cfu/g. paln oil sample G(POS G) has the least aerobic count of x4.4x 10°.palm
oil sample I (POS I) has the highest coliform count of 3.9x 10cfu/g while palm
oil sample G (POS G) has the least count of 2.3x 10cfu/g. highest fungi count ·
occurred in palm oil sample F(POS F) at 2.9x 10°cfu/g and least count in palm
oil sample C (POS C) at I.Ox 106cfu/g. the highest and last lipoly5tic count
occurred at palm oil sample J(POS J)2.8x 10° cfu/g and (l'OS I) 1.1 x 10 5
cfu/g respectively. Pseudomonas sp. And Staphylococcus sp have the highest
number of isolates (10) and highl'st pcrccnt,1gc occurrence of 23.25%
respectively. Aspergillus sp. and peuicilli11m sp. had the highest percentage
occurrence of 34.-l8% respectively. The study has shown that the bacteria
isolated arc potential lipase producers.
