ABSTRACT
Antimicrobial susceptibility of
Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa from wound infection are
investigated. A total of ten specimens were collected from Federal Medical
Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. The ten Specimen consists of Boils (5),
Bums (2) and Septic caesearean wound (3). Out of the ten bacterial isolates
obtained from wound culture, Gram - positive Staphylococcus aureus was the
predominant bacteria (66.6%) followed by Gram - negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa
(33.3%). The bacterial isolates Gram — positive Staphylococcus aureus was twice
than the gram - negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Gram negative
bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa were sensitive to Gentamicin, Pseudomonas
aeruginosa shows the highest resistance in I Tetracycline,, gram-positive
isolates Staphylococcus aureus were sensitive to I Gentamicin and Penicillin.
This study highlight specifically on Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas
aeruginosa and their antimicrpbial profile among wound infections.
