ABSTRACT
The influence of different forest
tree species (A. macrophylla, P. macrophya, G. arborea, I. wombolu, T
grandis, and P. carbaea) on soil pH, organic carbon and phosphorus were
studied. From the results, there was a decrease in soil pH measured in water
under Pentacethra macrophylla and Anthonata compared to the no-tree control.
Organic carbon content of soils under the tree species were statistically
similar to the control. Available phosphorus was significantly higher in the
control plot than in soil under pentacethra and Irving/a. In conclusion, these
variation in soil pH, and phosphorus may be due to root exudates, quality and
quantity of organic matter decomposition under the various tree species.
