ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to
investigate the influence of motivation on • secondary school teachers'
productivity in Umuahia North Local - Government Area of Abia State. This study
adopted survey design and made use of primary data collected through the use of
sell-administered questionnaire. The sample size for this study was two hundred
and forty five (245) respondents, which was drawn from the public secondary
schools in Umuahia North L.G.A. The data obtained were analysed using the
Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and Statistical Package for the
Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0. Four research Questions were raised and
answered in the study. The result showed that there was significant
relationship between the independent variable (regular payment of teachers'
salaries) and the dependent variable (teachers attendance to classes) (r =
0.927; p<0.05), there was a significant relationship between the independent variable (organisation of workshops for teachers) and the dependent variable (their knowledge of the subject matter) (r =0.996; p><0.05), there was a relationship between the independent variable (regular promotion of teachers) and the independent variable (their preparation of lesson note) though low (r =0.490; p><0.05), there was a significant relationship between the independent variable (the availability of instructional materials for teachers) and the independent variable (students' class achievements) (r =
0.787; P<0.05). In view of these findings, the study stressed and advocated
the need for regular payment of teachers' salaries, organisation of workshops for teachers, regular and adequate of promotion for teachers, availability of instructional materials, and that the working conditions of Nigerian organisations should be benchmarked against global standards to reduce the incentives for skilled manpower from migrating because these hasasignifitant-impact orrth —teactnrs ductivity -in thschool. The study fmdings are of great benefit as it will guide and assist the school cidministrtors government nd the ministry in motivcting tehers ><0.05)
