Impact Of Remittances On The Nigerian Standard Of Living:- Agiode Imoebe J
ABSTRACT
The studyfocused on the impact ofremittances on the
Nigerian standard ofliving covering the periodof1981 to 2017. The objectives
ofthe study were to evaluate the impact ofremittances on the Nigerian standard
ofliving and to ascertain the causalrelationship between remittances and
standard ofliving in Nigeria. Ordinary Least Square technique and granger
causality test were used in evaluating hypothesis. Thus revealed that;
remittances has a positive and significant impact on standard ofliving in
Nigeria, interest rate and exchange rate have a negative and significant impact
on standard of living in Nigeria. Lastly, there exist a causal relationship
between remittances and standard of living in Nigeria. Based on the findings,
the study recommended that; the government should encourage more remittances
inflow into the country. This will aid to better the standard ofliving, thus
lead to economic development in the long run. Interest rates and exchange rate
should be reduced so as to better the standard of living of citizens in the
country.
