ABSTRACT

This study empirically  examines  the impact of petroleum  profit  tax (PPT) on economic growth inNigeria. Inline withthe objectives ofthis study,secondary datawere obtained fromthe Central Bank ofNigeria statistical bulletin covering the period  of 2000-2016.In carrying  out the analysis,ordinary  least  square regression   method  were  employed  to analyze  data  on such  variables;  gross domestic  product  (GDP), total revenue,petroleum  profit  tax (PPT), and gross federally collected revenue.The findings revealthatthe abundance ofpetroleum and its associated  income has been beneficial  to the Nigerian    economy.It is recommended  that government  should transparently  andjudiciouslyaccount for therevenue itgenerates through petroleum profit taxbyinvesting intheprovision of infrastructure  and public  goods  and services.It is  expected  that the more effectively  and efficiently  revenueis utilized by government  to create growth, employment,opportunities  and wealth in the economy.The more willing tax payerswould betomeet their obligations  tothegovernment  anddischarge their dutiesintheoverriding goalofachieving national development.
