ABSTRACT

 This paper empirically examined the impact of non-oil revenue on the economic growth in Nigeria from 1981 - 2018. The main objective of this study was to check if there was any significant impact of non-oil revenue on the economic growth of Nigeria and to take a look at effect of government non-oil revenue on the economic growth of Nigeria. Secondary methods of data collection were used to generate data for this study and the sources of the data included CBN statistical bulletin and National Bureau of Statistics. Multiple regressions of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimation was the tool used to analyze the data in this study. Based on the model used in the research work, real GDP (as a dependent variable) was regressed on Manufacturing output (MCU). Agricultural output (AGRICOUTPUT) and tax revenue (TAXREV). Unit root test was conducted on the data to test their stationary, after which cointegration test was also performed to analyze the long run relationship among the variables. The result obtained from our empirical analysis shows that total non-oil revenue has a positive significant impact on the economic growth of Nigeria. The study therefore recommends that government should make efforts of diversifying the economy away from oil in order to encourage the generation of revenue by non-oil sectors.
