Impact Of Information Technology On The Accounting System Of Commercial Banks (A Study Of Selected Banks In Port Harcourt, Rivers State)
ABSTRACT
The study focuses on assessing the impact of information technology on the accounting system of commercial banks, the center attention was on four selected commercial banks in Nigeria, it's a very unique topic designed to examine how the high rate of error in customer's bank balances and statement of account can be reduced. In order to obtain the data for the study, questionnaires were distributed to an accessible population of bank's management and staff. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage and descriptive method, enhancing deduction and inference; non parametric statistical tools of chi-square were used to test the first and second hypotheses. However, based on the empirically tested hypotheses, some findings were made, such as; information technology is capable of eliminating long queues in commercial banks transactions and huge investment in information techno logy increases commercial banks profitability. Based on the findings, the study offered some vital recommendations such as; continuous computerization of more operational functions with emphasis on customer's satisfaction, also, management should embark on constant training and re-training of the computer professionals and staffs of the bank.
