ABSTRACT

This research work is an attempt at finding the impact of fixed asset holding on financial position of manufacturing industries. The study goes a long way to find out if there are factors militating against the development of fixed asset holding in Nigeria. The study also tries to find out if fixed asset holding has relationship with industrial development in Nigeria. As a modality for achieving this objective, the researcher employed both primary and secondary method of data collection. The major source of primary data used is questionnaire and personal interview. This work is divided into 5 chapters. The maiden chapter deals with the introduction, the background to the study, statement of the problem, research questioin, objective, research hypotheses, significance and limitations. The second chapter deals with the review of related literature. Chapter three titled research methodology contains the research design, scope of the study, sample size determination, sample and sampling technique, operational measure of variable, data collection procedure, instrument(s), administration and data analysis technique. The chapter four is devoted to data presentation analysis and discussion and research questions/ hypothesis. The firth and final chapter comprises of summary, conclusion and recommendations of the research topic. Findings obtained in the study include the following: that there are factors militating against the development of fixed asset holding in Nigeria. That also fixed asset holding has relationship with industrial development in Nigeria. Again it was found out that the nature of equipment affects the leasing of that equipment more still, that alternative source of finance is the reason for participating in fixed asset holding. The recommendations are: (a) The current statement of accounting standard of Accounting for leases should review lease to enhance disclosure such as - disclosure of rental expensed, sublease rental and a description of general leasing arrangement. (b) The government should through her appropriate agencies organize seminars and workshops to educate and interpret the ambiguous sections of the standard for easy applicability.
