ABSTRACT

Employees are the most important assets of an enterprise and its success or failure depends on their qualifications and performance. The current accounting system is not able to provide the value of employee's capabilities and knowledge. The research dwelt on human resource accounting; implications on organizational reporting in Nigeria. The objective of this study was to determine the implications of human resource accounting in organizational reporting in Nigeria and the need to report human resource as organizational assets rather than expense. Primary data were collected from thirty (32) respondents who were selected using a well structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was mainly structured in an open and close ended question format. The analysis of the collected data was done using descriptive statistics, particularly frequency table and simple percentage. The research hypotheses were tested with the application of correlation analysis and chi —square statistics. The correlation analysis with the aid of SPSS version revealed that human resource account reporting and profitability are positively correlated. Chi-square used for testing the second hypotheses revealed that the opinion of the respondents concerning the implication of not reporting human resources in the financial statement in an organization was not significantly different. Therefore it is concluded that adoption of human resource accounting by entities will provide the needed comprehensive data base for personnel policies with proper concepts of assets, costs which are necessary for obtaining, maintaining and retaining a satisfactory, satisfied and productive work force.
