Abstract
This paper, chronologically
appraised graduation trends ofstudents in Abia State University from 1999 -
2011 and its implication for quality assurance in our educational system. The
study adopted the case study research design method, and the population ofstudy
was about 20. 880 graduates. A purposive sampling technique was used and the
instrument for data collection was the convocation brochures ofthe University
for the time frame ofthe study. The results of data analysis using simply
percentages and Chi-square statistical analysis techniques showed that 14.41%
ofthe graduates have second class upper degree and above. 77.63% have second
class lower degree and below and 7.96% are unclassified. The result of data
analysis further revealed that there exist a significant difference in the
number of graduates with first class and second class upper degrees as well as
second class lower and 3 class degrees. It was recommended among other things
that for the quality of graduates to match the quality assurance efforts ofthe
government and donor agencies at all levels; great improvement on the part of
the students, lecturers, and government supervising bodies is inevitable
