Abstract
The study investigated the effect
of flipped classroom on secondary school Biology students' interest in Alcwa
lbom Stoic. Two research question~ and two hypotheses guided the study. This
study utilized quasi-experimental design. The population of this study
consisted of 6810 SS3 students in 254 public senior secondary schools in Akwa
[bom State. A sample of 123 SS3 Biology students drawn through multi stage
sampling process. The instrument used for data collection is Biology Student
Interest Scale in Genetics (BISIG). The instrument was validated by threc
experts- two experts from Biology Education and one expert from Measurement and
Evaluation. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research
questions while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the null
hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Students 1aught genetics with flipped
classroom had sicni licantl)' hii;her interest score than students toui:ht
i;enetic:s with lecture method. Again, the male students had higher mean
interest gain than their female counterparts taught genetics with flipped
classroom but was not statistically significant. I wns recommended that Biology
teachers in secondary school in Akwo lbom St.ite. Nii:cria should be encouraged
to use flipped classroom instructional strategy to teach students since it is
i:cndcr-friendly.
