ABSTRACT

 The purpose of the study was to identify factors influencing students career choice in agricultural occupations in Owerri Municipal council of Imo. A secondary purpose was to identify factors that discriminated between individuals who choose careers in agiiculture and those who do not. Former students in the study indicated their parents and friends as the individuals most influencing their choice of a career. The events and experiences reported by farmer students who chose a career in agriculture focused around several themes which included career opportunities, high school educational experiences, and work experiences. Of the former students who did not choose a career in agriculture, events and experiences cited included having other career interests, a lack of interest in agriculture, and a lack of career opportunities. A four research questions guided the study was identified and 44 items-questionnaire was designed and validated by 3 experts in the College of Agricultural and Science Education, Michael Okpara University of Agiiculture Umudike, The reliability of the study was determined using a trial-tested on each from SS2-SS3 students in Senior Secondary school in Owerri Municipal council. This instrument was administered to simple random sample of 190 students SS2-SS3from a population of633 in the study area. The result of the data analysis using mean and standard derivation. Based on the findings it was recommended that government should provide the agricultural mechanization and employ the trained teachers who will educate the students on the various career opportunities in agricultural occupations in Owerri Municipal councils
