Evaluation Of Antibacterial Activities Of Borreria Verticilata And Azadrichta Indica Leaf Extract On Four Bacterial Pathogens:- Aja, Peace .O.
ABSTRACT
The methanol and water extracts
of Borreria verticillata and Azadrichta indica were investigated for their
antibacterial activity against clinical isolates of four bacterial species
Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella
enterica Typhi and four Type culture bacterial species(Staphylococcus aureus
ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and
Enterococcus feacalis ATCC 7080). The antibacterial activity was evaluated
using the agar disc diffusion and broth dilution methods to determine the zone
of inhibition and minimum inhibitory concentration respectively. At a
concentration of 2000pg/disc, A. indica exhibited moderate to high
antibacterial activity against all test organisms except P. aeruginosa ATCC
27853 with diameter of Zone of inhibition ranging from 6mm-16mm. The water
extract of the plant was less active against the test organisms. The methanol
extracts of B. verticillata showed moderate to high antibacterial activity
against the test organisms except P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Tire results of
this investigation support the. use of these medicinal plants in traditional
medical practice. This study provides basis for future more indepth study of,
the antimicrobial properties of these plants.
