ABSTRACT

This research work, centred on enhancing the performance of Gio mobile communication networks using adaptive antenna array based technique. This research was necessitated due to interferences and multipath fading propagation from the sector antenna’s that results to poor performance of mobile communication network as sector antennas have no intelligent that is (not-dynamic). The source of data was Gio of network ID (ORLOOl- 1MH 701) at Orlu, Imo State which was characterize and the network shows poor network performance that needed the services of an adaptive antenna. The procedure for data collection was that the researcher used the RTN 905 PDH radio and connected it with the RJ 45 to the Ethernet port ofthe EIP laptop, then logged in with the software application. This gave rise in the development of an adaptive model in which the field bit error rate from Gio network were incorporated into the developed simulation model. The bit error rate as a parameter that determines a better performance of a mobile communication network was evaluated which was reduced with adaptive antenna, hence enhances the system capacity of this Gio network. Result shows that with adaptive antenna, the field bit error rate were reduced irrespective of the number of the adaptive antenna’s. Considering the adaptive simulation model, this automatically reduces the bit error rate values of the field bit error rate to a certain threshold. In the graphical Matlab representation, it was also observed that with adaptive antenna at 4 number of users, that the bit error rate of 2,3,4,5,6 adaptive antennas are 0.51,0.34,0.255,0.204,0.17 respectively. Hence this thesis objectives were achieved with adaptive antenna as the field bit error rate was reduced
