Effects Of Working Capital Management On The Performance Of Manufacturing Companies In Nigeria: Study Of Selected Companies.
ABSTRACT
Working Capital management underlies the purpose of the management of a
firm's current assets and current liabilities in a way to achieve the optimum
balance between liquidity and profitability. Its inefficiency can lead to
corporate deficit as much as over investment in Working Capital can be
equally detriment. The main purpose of this study is to Ascertain effects of
working capital on the performance of the identified Manufacturing
companies in Nigeria. Survey data were obtained from 200 respondents for
research design. Questionnaire while secondary data were extracted from the
annual accounts of Paterson, Zochonis Nigeria Plc and Neimeth International
Pharmaceutical Plc. For 5 years (2003 - 2007). Data were analyzed using
descriptive, correlation and regression techniques the results shows that the
value of working capital has a strong positive effect on profitability of the
aforementioned firms, which was significant at 0.05 level between
profitability value and working capital values of the firm. The findings shows
that the Debt management of the companies was slow collection. Based oii
that recommendation were made that the firm should keep a ratio of 2 1 for
working capital and should redress their credit management.
