ABSTRACT

This study examines the "Effect of Information and Communication

Technology on Accounting Processes of Financial institution in Nigeria;

with Diamond Bank Nig. Plc as a study.

Questionnaires and interview were administered tO various departments of

the Bank's Staff and a good number of the customers. These helped to elicit

answers to research questions and hypotheses.

The findings based on the analysis of data include that:

ICT has helped to increase efficient and reliability in the transactions of the

financial institutions.

ICT has greatly reduced long waiting queues that were associated with our

banks.

ICT has made it possible for customers that have an account in one branch to

make deposits or withdrawals from any banks' branch anywhere in the

country. This has increased the confidence of customers in computerized

banks.

ICT reduced the time spent by customers in transacting business in the

banks.

ICT has helped bankers to provide better and faster services to their

customers.

Customers are happy with computerization and have transferred their

accounts from uneomputerized banks to computerized ones.

This same helpful and useful computerization is also usedas an instrument

of committing fraud and computer crime.

Based on the above findings, the following recommendations were made:

Financial industries especially banks should be encouraged to computerized

their outfits for therefore mentioned benefits.

Legislative controls should be introduced with appropriate penalties in cases

of computer crimes committed by different categories of the bank staff.

Administrative and physical controls should also be introduced to forestall

computer frauds in banks.

Nonetheless, the merit of computerization in the financial institution

outweigh its demerits.
