Effects Of Aqueous Extract Of Hibiscus Sabdariffa (Zobo) On Hematology And Electrocardiograph Of West African Dwarf (Wad) Goats
ABSTRACT
Hibiscus sabdariffa is an annual herbaceous shrub belonging to the family rnalvaceae and is known for its medicinal properties. The study was carried out to determine the usefulness of zobo on the heart function and blood, observing the negative and positive effects on West African dwarf (WAD) goats. Ten matured goats were used in the study. The goats were randomly divided into two (A and B) of five goats each. Blood sample was taken from each goat in both groups for hematology analysis and ECG of each goat from the two groups was also performed. Group A served as the control while group B was given aqueous extract of hibiscus sabdariffa for five days. The statistical analyses were performed with SPSS using Student t-test to compare the means values with the control. P<O.05 was considered significant. It was discovered that Hibiscus sabdariffa (zobo) has no harmful effect on the heart function and blood of the WAD goats, rather enhances and stabilizes the heart functions. Therefore, zobo consumption poses no threat on the heart and blood.
