ABSTRACT
Education is a
vehicle of achieving laudable objectives of any society. It is a means through
which nations attain set goals and objectives. Every nation knowing the
importance of education, regards it as one of the cardinal role of the
government, hence in many nations it is in the concurrent legislative list; the
same is applicable to Nigeria. Nigeria devotes much resource to the pursuit of
education of its citizens, and educational institutions are constantly seeking
for ways of improving on their educational delivery. According to Bashir and
Mattoo (2012), proper assessment of students, learning outcomes in the
classroom is very important in the education process. This makes it imperative
that for effective feedback in the teaching and learning process to take place,
students must be adequately assessed. In other words, the attainment of
Education for sustainable Development in hinged on proper assessment of
teaching/learning in the classroom. And for schools to guarantee the success of
every child, effective assessment strategies as tools that monitor and ensue
that teaching and learning are taking place as required in the classroom should
be emphasized.
