ABSTRACT

The study  examined  the effect of risk management  on financial  performance  of Banks  in Nigeria.   The specific objectives of the study were to ascertain the effect of capital adequacy ratio,  non-performing  loan ratio and liquidity ratio. on return on asset of banks in Nigeria. The study adopted  ex-post facto  research design. Secondary data was used in the study and the data  was  sourced from  the financial  stater,zentsof  First Bank Nigeria Pie.     The data covered.from 2006 to 2017.  The method of data analysis was multiple regression statistical techniques.    The findings  of the study  revealed  that capital adequacy  ratio· has significant effect on the return on asset of commercial banks, Non performing  loans and liquidity ratio has  significant effect on  the  returns  on  assets  of  banks  in  Nigeria.    It  was  therefore recommended   that management should devise modern risk management techniques such as value   at  risk,  simulation   techniques  and  Risk-Adjusted  Return  on  Capital  to  cope  with problem  of related risks in Bank. The management of the study bank should as a matter of urgerJ!y adhered to the SC of lending and other relevance policies specified by Central Bank of NiJeria on proper management of loan to avoid high incidence of nonperforming loan in the bank.   The management of the study bank should at every at point  in time  carry out an internal audit on their banks to ascertain their liquidity level to avoid over stock of cash or under stock of cash which has detrimental effect on the profit of the bank.
