ABSTRACT

The studyfocused on the effect ofpublic expenditure on education and health sector in Nigeria covering the period of1981 to 2018. The objectives ofthe study were to assess the effect ofpublic expenditure on education and health care sector on the Nigerian economy and to investigate if there is a long run relationship between public expenditure on education sector and health care on Nigerian economy. Unitroot test, Johansen co-integration test and error correction mechanism were adopted, thus revealed that; public expenditure on health and education have a positive and significant impact on economic growth in Nigeria also there exist a long run relationship between public expenditure on health and education on Nigerian economy. Based on thefinding the study recommended that; the government should increase its total expenditure on education so that adequate educationalfacilitiesforthorough andproper quality education delivery would be made available. Also Nigerian government should ensure a standard is set across all secondary and tertiary institutions in the country so that proper human capital requiredfor any individual to become productive is enhanced. Government should make health care accessible through improving its affordability to the common individual in society so as to boost the economic growth ofNigeria through human capital development. As a result ofthe long run relationship more expenditure on health care and education sector shoidd be adopted in the country.
