ABSTRACT

Comparative Study of Zooplankton Culture using poultry dropping, Cow dung and Piggery dung was carried out during the course of this study. This project research was carried out in the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management laboratory MOUAU and it lasted for five weeks. Seven aquaria were used tagged A₁, A₂, B₁, B₂, C₁, 0₂ and D₁ A₂, B₂and C₂are the replications while aquarium D is the control. The aquaria were then filled up with 20 litters of water after which the organic manures were introduced after fermenting them for four days. The ranges of physico-chemical parameters obtained during this experimental period (PH 7.35 to 7.51, Dissolved oxygen 5.68 to 6.98, Temperature 273-27.6 )were favourable to the growth of zooplankton and other aquatic organisms, There was a significant different between the organic matter contents on PH values ( p<0.05). The result obtained showed that highest population peak for chicken dropping was on 2^nd week, which ranges from 150 to 9550 individuals zooplankton per liter, followed by piggery dung which has population peak on the 3rd week which ranges from 150 to 5650 individual zooplankton per liter, while cow dung ranges from 150 to 4225 individuals zooplankton per liter on 3rd week. Finally, in view of the above finding it is preferable to use poultry dropp1ng for the natural fish food production.
