ABSTRACT

For the study 4 tank measuring 1 cm in length width and depth were used. Tank A, B and C were fertilized with fermented cassava peals at different levels of fermentation that is 10, 7 and 5 days respectively. Tank D served as control where. there was no fertilization. Cassava, were got, peeled then the peeled were tied in different jute bag and then covered with cellophane bag for effective fermentation. 25kg of fermented cassava were measured from each bag, weighed and introduced in the tank (A, B, and C ) at the same time for accurate reading, pH and temperature were taken before and after introduction. Sample was collected from each of the tank with a one litre plastic container, sieved through a 100 micron-mesh and then carried to research institute for analysis that involve the morphological examination and identification with the use of Zooplankton counting chamber. Water quality parameters like temperature, PH were monitored morning and evening, Dissolve oxygen were monitored once per week. Statistical analysis showed a mean total zooplankton density for the 3 months of study as 262Z. The mean density ranged from 2108 in tank D to 3160 in tank A. thus signifying a significant increase in zooplankton with increase in fermentation period. The highest population of zooplankton was recorded in month 1 having a value ranged from 2875 in tank D to 4755 in tank A. the peak value was found at the 4 week of each month. The result also showed that tank A has more of zooplankton followed by B and C, and then tank D has the least. The result for 2' and 3rd month showed that tank A has the highest number of zooplankton compared to B and C the D hate least, thus fermentation significantly (p<0.05) increase zooplankton density in various tanks. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used and the mean were separated using Duncan multiple range test and LSD.
