ABSTRACT
Effect of Financial Misappropriation on the development and sustainability of Nigerian Public Sector is a work that tends to examine financial misappropriation and its effect on public sector development. The possible causes of financial misappropriation and the efforts of government towards the reduction of financial misappropriation in the public sector were also examined. From the findings, it has revealed that the financial misappropriation brought about under development of the Nigerian public sector because the higher the rate of financial misappropriation, the lower the level of Nigerian public sector development, thus poses a serious development problem. Hence for the sake of the analysis, simple Tables and Percentages, Regression and Correlation coefficient were adopted. The results of the findings revealed that financial misappropriation has effect on the Nigerian Public Sector development and there is also inverse relationship existing between financial misappropriation and the public sector development. It is therefore concluded that financial misappropriation results in the dishonest handling of public funds and financial dealings on the part of public officials and as such poses a serious development, challenges as it reduces the quality of government services. It is recommended that in order to achieve a greater level of public sector development, all hands must be on desk including Government, Auditors, Anti-corrupt bodies, Political leaders and the entire individuals to enhance accountability and transparency on financial dealings of the government, by so doing, the level of corruption and financial misappropriation will be minimized thereby improving a sustainable public sector development to a greater height .
