Effect Of Feeding Roasted Treculia Africana (African Breadfruit) Seed On Organ Weights And Total Liver Protein In Albino Rat
ABSTRACT
The effect of roasted (processed)African breadfruit
(Treculia africana) on organ weight and total liver protein in normal healthy
albino rats was investigated. Sixteen albino rats were randomly assigned into
four groups of four rats each. Group 1 (control) was fed on normal rat chow,
group11 received 10% of breadfruit diet, Group III received 50% of breadfruit and
last of group received 100% of breadfruit diet. The regimens lasted for a
period of 2 weeks. Total liver protein g/100g obtained was (544.0±148.8) in
group 1 (51.9.98±938.8) in group 11(179.06±89.70) in group III and
(493.7±304.23) in group IV. The liver protein level in the breadfruit fed rat
was significantly lower than in the groups fed on normal rat chow. It is
concluded that the consumption of bread fruit could lead to decrease level
protein.
