ABSTRACT
Immune system is
a system of biological structures and processes within an organism that protects
against disease. The integral i-ole of this system can be accounted for by its
tendency to detect a wide variety of agents. from viruses to parasite worms. and
distinguish them from the organisms own healthy tissue. Pathogens can rapidly
evolve and adapt to avoid detection and neutralization by the immune system .
as a result, multiple defense mechanisms have also evolved to recognize and
neutralize pathogens. Adaptive (or acquired) immunity creates immunological
memory after an initial response to a specific pathogen. leading to an enhanced
responses to subsequent encounters with that same pathogen. This process of acquired
immunity is the basis of vaccination. Immunodeficiency occurs when the immune system
is less active than normal . resulting in recurring and life threatening
infections. Telfairia occidentalis and Tectona grandis plays important role in
human and livestock nutrition s. The poor state of economy in developing
countries has made consumption of high protein food out of reach of more than
65-70% (Nworgu. 2004). One of the ways of solving this problem is to use
unconventional sources of protein and leaf protein to supplement the diet of
man farm animals. The herbal preparation of the plant has been employed in the
treatment of sudden attack of convulsion, malaria and anaemia (Adedapo et al
2002). The leaves of Telfairia occcidentalis and Tectona grandis are medicinally
useful They possesses anti-inflammatory anti bacterial, anti fungal.
antidiuretic as well as erythropoietic properties.
