Effect Of Ethanol Extract Of Gouania Longipetala Leaves On Selected Vitamin And Mineral Levels Of Acetaminophen-Overdosed Albino Rats.:- Igoji Sandra C.
Abstract
The current study evaluated the effect of
ethanol leaves extract on overdosed acetaminophen on albino rats. Animals
weighting 120-180kg was used for the study. The animals were divided into five
(5) groups of 5 animals each. Group 1 served of control with access to food and
water ad libitum, group2 serves as negative control (acetaminophen overdosed
without treatment), group 3,4 and 5 were administered with the ethanol extract
of gouania longipetela leaves 200mglkg, 600mglkg and lOOOmglkg body weight
respectively. The experiment lasted for 21 days after which the animals were
sacrificed and blood collected by cardiac puncture. The collected blood was
allowed to clot than centrifugeed to obtain serum for further biochemical analysis.
The result showed a significant increase in sodium (Na level in group 5
(451.93+19.4) at p < 0.05 when compared with control group (237.87+2.33) The
result for potassium showed a significant decrease in group 4 when compared
with group 2 (acetaminophen) The result for Vitamin E, Vitamin C and my showed
no significant difference at p>0.05 in all treatment groups.
