ABSTRACT

The aim of this study investigate the effect of computerized accounting system on the

performance of corporate firms in Nigeria. The major objectives of the study is to determine

the effects of computerized accounting system on the profitability of guarantee trust bank, to

investigate the effect of computerized accounting system on fraud control iii guarantee trust

bank. Also to examine whether customer satisfaction has improved in Nigeria banks as a

result of computerized accounting system. To achieve the objectives of the study, survey

research design was adopted. The researcher adopted primary data in getting the required

information. In testing the hypothesis simple regression was used. The findings shows that

Computerized Accounting System has a signfIcant effect on commercial bank's profitability.

This was found to be true because the application of a computerized ccounting system in

performance of corporate firms aids quick customer services decision making process and

quality performance than in manual accounting system. Also, the installation of accounting

software in the computer, processes data and creates reports much faster than manual system

which is slow. Secondly It is evident that there is a signtIcant effect of computerized

accounting system on fraud control in Guarantee Trust bank. Though this was corroborated

by the test carried out, it was observed that some Financial Institution in Aba Abia state are

yet to take advantage of the excellent benefits provided by it, as such this reports from

manufacturing operations carried out have remained uninterested and unreliable. Lastly, it is

evident that there is a signicant effect of computerized accounting system on improved

customer satisfaction in Nigeria banks. This is because computerized accounting system

provides a means for them to record; very high volume of transactions with the great speed

and financial and prepare a wide range of detailed financial report. ft also provides

management with current account balance information since balance is posted as the

transactions occur. The researcher therefore recommends that the Financial Institution

should take advantage of the excellent benefits derivable from the adopiion of well-designed

computerized accounting system. This will help them to achieve a high and acceptable

standard of quality in the performance of their corporate firms.
