ABSTRACT

 The study focused on effect of computer based information system on organizational performance (A study of Ecobank Nig. Plc., in Abia State). The specific objectives sought to achieve in this study include, to determine the relevance of computer based information system in Ecobank Nig. plc, to evaluate the rate of usage of information systems in Ecobank, to examine how information systems can be used to improve Ecobank’s performance and to establish the challenges of Computer based information systems in Ecobank. A Survey research design was adopted for this study. The study had a population size of 227, out of which a sample size of 145 was realized using Taro Yamane 's formula at 5% error tolerance and 95% level of confidence. Instrument used for data collection was primarily questionnaire and interview. Out of the 145 copies of questionnaire that were distributed, 124 were duly returned. The hypotheses were tested using Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, Linear Regression, ANOVA method of data analysis and Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) tool. The findings indicate that, there is a significant relevance of computer based information system on organizational performance in Ecobank (R* =0.922; adjusted R?=0.921; F.cal=1432.273; p=0.000" (p<0.05 at significant level). Also that to a high extent computer based information system is used by both staff and customers of Ecobank (R* =0.844; adjusted R?=0.842; F.cal=1432.273; p=0.000°; (p<0.05 at significant level), there are significant ways computer based information systems can be used to improve Ecobank's performance (R* =0.713; adjusted R?=0.711; F.cal=303.724; p=0.000% (p<0.05 at significant level) and finally there are several challenges facing Ecobank’s performance in Abia state from staff and customers’ resistance of the new information systems (R* =0.683; adjusted R’=0.680; F.cal=262.720; p=0.000; (p<0.05 at significant level). The researcher concluded that computer based information system affects the performance of Ecobank Nig. plc., and the study recommended that; Continous usage of computerized systems should be strongly encouraged by the management of Ecobank, Management of the selected bank branches should be active in ensuring zero tolerance of resistance of computer based information systems and customers should be encouraged to utilize the available information systems.
