ABSTRACT
An incubation study was carried out at the laboratory of the Department of Soil Science and Meteorology, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike to determine the effect of amendment on soil organic carbon of soils derived from coastal plain sand, sandstone, shale and alluvium parent materials. The objective of this work is to determine the effect of ash, lime and biochar on soil organic carbon in these soils. The treatments comprised of control (no amendment), Biochar (B) at 2t/ha, Lime (L) at 2tlha and Ash (A) at 2t/ha. PM +Biochar (PM+B) at It/ha, PM+Ash (PM+A) at 1/ha and PM + Lime, (PM+L) at it/ha. All the treatments were assigned to bOg of soil contained in 500g container and were replicated three times for organic carbon using completely randomized design.
