ABSTRACT
This research work
which investigated the immobilization of heavy metals in contaminated soil by
agricultural amendments was carried out in Micheal Okpara university of
Agriculture, Umudike Umuahia Abia State. Soil samples were collected from both
contaminated soil (Mechanic Village Soil) and normal soils. These samples were
treated with two levels (log and 20g) of each of the amendments —rice husk, poultry
manure and green compost manure and were left to incubate for ten (10) weeks.
The samples were analysed prior to incubation and at the end of incubation
period for physicochemical property and heavy metal content. The results
obtained showed that soil amendment had no effect on texture but significantly
affected other soil properties like pH. Available P and organic cabon. While
log of green compost reduced (immobilized) significantly the level of lead in
contaminated soil, 20g of rice husk reduced (immobilized) significantly the
concentration of cadunium.
