ABSTRACT

The present study aim is to determine soil microbial biomass as affected by amendment of the soil with organic and inorganic fertilizers. Soil amendment affect the growth of microorganism. From the result the organic treatment (B) had the highest total viable plate count 2.41 x 108 to 8.4 x 107fo11owed by organic and inorganic treatment (D) 1.79 x 108 to 7.5 x i07, then followed by inorganic fertilizers (C) 7.1 x i07to 3.4 x 10 and next is A which is the control .2 x io to 6.7 x 1 0. The result shows Bacteria isolated which belong to the family E. coil, P. aeruginosa, Kiebsielia pneumonia., Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus aureus., Bacillus spp. and Micrococcus spp., and fungal isolates which belong to the family Aspergillus spp., Pencillum spp., Trichoderma spp., Rhizopus spp. and Mucor spp. The percentage occurrence of bacterial isolates, from the result E. co/i, P. aeruginosa and Bacillus spp has the highest occurrence of (20%) followed by Kiebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus with (15%), while the least percentage occurrence was in Micrococcus spp and Streptococcus spp with (5%) and the percentage occurrence of fingal isolates, from the result Pencillum spp. has the highest occurrence of (36.5%) followed by Asperigillus spp. with (27.3%) and Rhizopus spp. with (18.2), while the least percentage occurrence was in Mucor spp and trichoderma spp with (9.1%). The pH of these treatments is right for the growth of these crops. The best Soil pHs for overall availability of nutrients plant growth and microbial processes is slightly acidic to neutral (6.0-7.5). Organic manure achieves a high microbial load, high nutrient content for soil, and this leads to higher growth of crops. Farmers should be encouraged to use organic manure as a way of adding nutrients to the soil other than the use of fertilizers.
